I've got an N770 and the Navicore Personal 2007 software.

To update you need to use Windows, and I have a MacBook. But I run Windows under VMWare, so I downloaded the navicore_update.exe program. Unfortunately it won't work and keeps reporting that it can't find the server, even though I've disabled the firewall.

So I emailed their tech support and was directed to the following site:

http://www.navicoretech.com/Consumer.../en_GB/tablet/

I followed the instructions but when the new map (I only need the UK map) and software are copied to the 770's mmc card, and after I've reinstalled the Navicore .deb package as they say, Navicore will no longer start. The splash screen appears but then it quits and I'm back on the desktop.

Anybody got any ideas? I've tried all combinations, such as wiping the memory card, installing Navicore from DVD, and then updating before installing. But it still keeps quiting when the splash appears.

It's driving me mad

The files on that page worked for me, but I have the version for the N800. How did you extract the (map-)files on to your SD-card?
The "mapdata_UK-Ireland" dir has to be in the "upper Navicore" directory: /media/mmc1/Navicore/mapdata_UK-Ireland/

Yes, I dropped the map files into where you say. But are you saying that you untared the files actually on the 770 itself?

I untarred them on my Mac at the command prompt. I assume the new files overwrote the old ones.

I did try it by just extracting the new files and maps to the memory card, without any of the DVD contents, but it did exactly the same -- quit shortly after the splash appeared. I've tried it every which way.

No, I extracted the tar-files on my PC (Linux) and copied them over via ssh to the SD-card in the N800 (no cardreader available at the time )
Then I opened the Softwaremanger and installed the deb-file.
You could try to run "navicore" from the xterm and look for error-messages.

OK, I've figured it out. I didn't spot that the tar contained a NEW .deb installation package. I was using the old one. This is partially my fault, and partially Navicore's -- the 770 upgrade tarball is corrupted and crashes all but command-line untaring tools, which reports several voice ogg files are missing. This confused me a little and I didn't spot the spread of new files... Usual story (Downloaded twice; same results each time. The voice files are for the svk, hun, fin, and dnk languages.)

I can see why they introduced an automated upgrade assistant. It's just a shame they only released this for Windows, and also a shame that it doesn't actually work

In the end I stepped back to the old version. The new version started too slowly (a few minutes to get to the stage where you can key in a destination).

The old version is fine. I updated the map, however. I was surprised to see that the files were mostly identical to the old map's files, with only a few text files changing (those that described points of interest, I think).
