1. defect in my mmc ?

formated 1 GB Kingston mmc mobile using mke2fs /dev/mmcblk0p2, very slow after 27 blocks when writing inode tables (61 blocks in total). Repeated couple times and tried with mkfs.ext3, same thing happened.

when the format was done, no problem was found with e2fsck -f /dev/mmcblk0p2

2. reboot during OS cloning

when the OS was cloned using: ./tar cf - -C /floppy . | ./tar xvf - -C /opt, it run very fast and then significantly slow down and then copy speed varied but finally the tablet rebooted itself. Tried several times with ext2 or ext3 but all failed. GNU tar was used and virtual memory was set to 64 MB.

Thanks for your time!

Both issues are somewhat normal. MMC write speed is pathetic (300KB/s). You may check kernel with faster mmc bus speed and multiblock writes. http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/#mmcplus Cloning the system is best way to test its stability for your card. Reboots are also somewhat normal. Turning off wi-fi might give you better chance, see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2006

Thanks for saving our time ;-)

BTW, are you sure new thread was really needed? Do a search and you'll find more than enough threads about this already.

Thanks for your reply.

Tried all methods I could find in this forum but the problem persisted. Wish to get a solution before buying another mmc card.
