So let me start by saying thanks for the forum. Second I have had my n800 ($229 buy.com shipped!) for less than a week. So far so well but I have seen a lot of posts about VZW DUN and a lot of frustrated people. I too was frustrated because for this thing (IT) to be REALLY useful I'll need the option to connect at times and places where there is no free wifi.

I've been usb tethering various VZW phones over the years and thought hey no big deal since Nokia advertises DUN (and has VZW in the connection setup). But for the most part, a lot of people are posting either not being able to get online, or workarounds such as pdanet. I have a razr v3m and I AM NOT buying another phone to use my n800 over DUN.

I've used Howard Forums for years but honestly haven't kept up with much there. My razr would connect without any crazy settings but would drop the BT immediately like it wasn't authenticating. I know on a desktop I have to turn off a lot of the connections settings to get a connection. But I finally got a connection last night and here's how. I suspect this to work for a lot of phones:

1. First go to Howard Forums and look up how to force your phone into 1x RTT instead of EVDO. You can use EVDO but you might risk a higher chance of being flagged by VZW (NOTE this is for people with regular cell plans, no data, tethering plans).
2. Set the phone for no pap dun (http://mark.cdmaforums.com/NoPapDun.htm) this requires seem edits and some other fancy foot work but overall its not that bad. I hadn't used seem or pk anything in awhile and caught up to speed pretty fast from Mark's page above.
3. Connect and have fun!

Again, this will work on more than the razr but please look into the specifics of your phone before trying anything above. You can BRICK a phone using SEEM.

Thanks
Dylan

You should pay very close attention to your next VZW bill... as of Nov 1 2007, unless you have some kind of data plan, Verizon is now charging $1.99 per megabyte on all data transferred through your phone.

Look Here

They have a $15/month VCast VPak plan which allows for unlimited data transfer (but BT tethering is still technically against the TOS). You may want to look into that. You can go over to HowardForums and get all of the latest details about tethering under the new plans.
