I've been able to get sync to work (mostly) between Garnet VM and a Windows box ( I failed on my first attempt to my linux box running Ubuntu, gpilot seemed to work at first but would not sync from the handheld back to the PC ).

Calendar, Contacts and Memos all seem to sync just fine both to and from Garnet. This took a bit of futzing with it though...

1. Create an item on the PC
2. sync from PC to garnet - one way
3. Modify the item in Garnet
4. sync from garnet to PC - one way
5. set hotsync to sync instead of just one-way copy.

I had to repeat those steps for each pim app.

At this point I apologize in advance for my rant.

The problem is the ToDo App. I was so thrilled when I heard we could emulate palm apps on our tablets. For so long I had hoped that we would get SOMETHING that would let us reliably sync our mariad lists of contacts, appointments and grocery lists ( although Mtn Dew, Doritos and Microwave dinners shouldn't be all that hard to remember ). My previous attempts using opensync, gpesyncd, and multisync were all exercises in partially working sync tools entirely too frustrating to use, and this comes from someone that has compiled v4l to be able to use my "unsupported" video capture card with mythtv and setup bind to run in a chroot jail because I was bored and wanted to tinker with something.

All this to have my hopes smashed when every single ToDo App I can find for palmos fails miserably at sync'ing from garnet to my PC! This would have been the most important part of the whole Garnet VM for my use. I realize that I was probably foolish to think that all of this would work in a beta release of an emulator and that I should be glad that I at least have a working way to sync what I can, but it still leaves me wanting.

Has anyone had any luck in getting any sort of task/todo app to sync reliably without a mess of scripts and manually deleting duplicate entries? I'm getting very tempted to just start using rsync to replicate text files at this point.

Anyone have any luck with any of the ToDo Apps in Garnet VM?
I have tried Todo+, ToDo2, DateBK6 and none of them seem to create the expected entries in the actual ToDoDB that hotsync connects to.

PalmOne (after Palm was split up into PalmSource and PalmOne) extended the original DateBook application and called it Calendar. It is basically an enhanced version with support for some more record types. This goes for a couple of other standard apps too. Access (which bought PalmSource) doesn't have a license to these enhanced versions and deliver the original DateBook etc. with the emulator.

I don't sync my Palm T3 to PalmDesktop myself (I early on figured that I would be much better off simply managing all my things on the T3 itself), so I'm not too familiar with PalmDesktop, unfortunately. It was a shot in the dark to suggest looking for that option. Sorry it didn't work out. But some of the others in this thread seems to have at least some success with synching, so hopefully it'll sort out for you as well.

I still have not been able to view my addressbook, datebook, or to-do files on Garnet on my N800, even though I get a "successful HotSync" message on my computer. I really only need my contacts, so I'm willing to import them if that's the only way. Here are my specs:

Win Vista laptop
Palm Desktop V. 6.2.1
AddressBook Module V.6.2.0
DateBook Module V. 6.2.0
HotSync manager V. 7.0.1
Nokia N800 upgraded to OS2008

Could someone who has been able to sync their contacts into their tablet advise what additionally I might need to do?
Otherwise, could someone who has been able to import their contacts advise exactly where to find the PC files necessary and where to install on my tablet to view in Garner VM?

Thanks!

Don't export to mba... that's a Palm archive file. Select all contacts then click FIle / Export vCard. Transfer the resulting file to your IT. You ought to be able to import that data into the default Contacts app or into some other such as GPE Contacts.

HTH,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Actually, I did that a long time ago, but I could not get Garnet to import it. (I do find it useful for importing entries into the tablet's Contact list)!
I wanted to use the familiar Palm program rather than GPE, esp. since there are others out who have been able to do it.
