Hi, i'm new to these forums, and also new to Internet Tablets as well, the N810 is my first one, and i think its good so far, apart from a massive problem i'm having with the Maps feature.

When i first got the n810, the maps worked, but then i downloaded a UK map and ever since Maps has been broken. When i try and load Maps the program, the program appears to be loading, but after 5 seconds, Maps closes down automatically. I can't get it to start anymore.

I have gone as far as uninstalling Maps, then reflashing with the updated ...19version system in the Nokia Updater, and it reinstalled Maps, but same problem, Maps wont load, it closes after 5 seconds each time. I dont know what to do or how to fix it. I think i need to restore it completely to factory settings, even when i use the software updater from Nokia, it still remembers my location, and also the time, so its not doing a complete reflash or system reinstall.

Please can someone help, i really need to get the Maps working so i can use the GPS. Thanks in advance.

By default the Map appilications stores its files on the nonremoveable Internal Memory "card". This drive is unaffected when reflashing the OS. If you use the File Manager to navigate to Internal memory card > map you should see a folder for each map, plus some others. I have...

mapdata
mapdata_Canada-Alaska
mapdata_UK-Ireland
mapdata_USA West
navicore
versions

"mapdata" is the current active map, in my setup this is "USA East". Evidently the application simply renames folders when you switch maps.

"versions" appears to contain only a single text file.

"navicore" appears to store settings and multiple copies of legal notices and sound files in various languages. You could try moving the navicore folder to another drive (such as a removeable SD card or a PC) to test if Map will then run, but keep a copy of the original navicore folder.

My navicore folder contains 50 subfolders, 2051files, and uses 29.1 MB of storage. As a test I moved it to another drive and started Map. It automatically recreated the navicore folder, but with only 3 subfolders, 28 files and 410kb. Most of the difference is the sound files which were, of course, not automatically recreated.

Hi Sparkling,

thanks for the tips, i just tried moving that folder to my removable memory card, and when i started Maps, it brought up the licence acceptance form thing, great i thought, it was working again, but when i accepted the form Maps then waited 5 seconds and closed again! It was almost fixed...

Next I would try deleting the folder holding the UK map that you downloaded. If it is corrupt the application may fail when it tries to build the list of maps. This is only a hunch, but I had to try three times before the UK map was clean.

Strange, i looked through the maps files and i couldnt find the UK one, maybe it didnt download properly, but there is no record of it anywhere. I decided to move the maps, one by one, onto my removable memory card, and tried running Maps after each file had been moved. Maps kept shutting down after 5 seconds as always. With no maps it still shuts down after 5 seconds... I also tried reinstalling the original flash file of the os2008 that i got from Maemo.org, it said you are "downgrading to an older version" which was fine, but Maps still wont work. It also remember the time when i restarted the device, so its still not restoring it to factory settings.

The whole maps thing is messed up on mine, is there anyway to download the Maps installation application and just reinstall it?
