I just got the N800, and I've been trying to update to the OS2008 with my Mac, but I've had no luck. I'm using the 770flasher app which works with Mac, but the problem seems to be the image which needs to be flashed to the N800. I went to the tablets-dev.nokia.com website to try to download the non beta update, but when I go to download it onto my Mac, it tries to open it first. It says it's a binary file, but when it gets to my desktop, it ends up as a text file. I'm using Firefox as my browser with Mac OS 10.4.11. I then went to another website whose name I can't remember, and I was able to download another bin file for the update. Unfortunately, when I tried to update all I got was the following message:
Suitable USB device not found, waiting
To flash the bootloader, you have to supply the X-Loader image

The ITT wiki at the top of this page, under faqs and tips points to two posts. As I recall there was a discussion of the 'text' nature of the php file. I would look at the posts and for references to php update files.

If you learn anything, please add it to the wiki.

I flashed my N800 using my old PowerBook G4, using the 770 flasher app after I read this tip in a previous post that discussed the various methods for flashing.

Rename the downloaded file. The file name on the download link is the one to use.

RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

Highlite and copy/paste the name onto whatever file name the download produces. I was getting a .php file or something.
