There is no* offline MS word for the internet tablet.
There are other text and document editors but they are wholy incompatable with MS Word. *There is Garnet that emulates a PDA and then for that there is a program called Word To Go purchased separately, but the compatability isn't 100%, and you view in a tiny screen I wouldn't consider it a 'feature' of the internet tablet.

There is a great office suite KDE... but if you haven't been able to find out what the internet tablet is (and is not) then it's probably more complex of a setup than you are ready for.

Not to be rude, or discrouage N8x0 sales, but I'm not so sure the Nokia tablet is for you. Definitely read more about it before making your purchase.

[Edit: Re-reading your post, I might have gone too far. If you wern't expecting MS word compatability, there are programs like wordpress (I thought I saw something about wordstar but can't find it now). I used to love wordstar back in 1990 but I digress.]

I've been able to use every doc I've written in the default Notes app in MS Word. While it can't read Word files, you can write docs with it.

doc Reader was just updated for OS2008. It will convert MS Word docs into text or PDF for reading on the ITs.

AbiWord isn't ready yet, but it is being developed. It is close to MS Word functionality and can read Word docs. (Btw, why do I remember having AbiWord installed on mt IT at some point... Oh, well.)

Tim

Update: Re: AbiWord... I guess this is why I thought I used to have it:

There is, unfortunately, no maemo word processor that will edit MS Word, OpenDocument, or RTF files. There is also no adequate PIM functionality, nor any way to sync the n810's data to one's desktop machine(s).

Coming from the Palm, where these things have been available for a decade, this has all come as something of a shock to me. So if what you want is a useful machine for everyday use, you will be disappointed with the n810.

However, if what you want is a nifty piece of hardware to *play* with, you will definitely love the n810. It's all but useless, but then, so is a Rubik's Cube.
