I'm attempting to get a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset working with an N800 running OS2008. The headset works out of the box with my cellphone and laptop, but when I pair it with the N800, I get no audio. The built in speakers do cut off when paired and connected, so it's as if it's trying to send the audio over bluetooth, but just not going through. Any ideas?

i powered down, removed my memory cards,
removed gnokii program that i previously installed,
put back the memory cards, deleted and paired the headset again.

Also see if you have fmradio installed, it's been reported that it inteferes with the bluetooth headsets sometimes.

I tested a motorola headset then a nokia one, and both worked. But now when the motorola connects, the N800 doesnt use it.
It pairs, but the sound icon will not change, and sound continues to come from the speakers. Deleting the devices and re-pairing didn't help. Starting apps doesn't help. Manually connecting doesn't help. Even rebooting didn't help. On first connecting the headset after reboot, I got no sound at all, anywhere.
Lots of bugginess. Very frustrating. The nokia headset has no problems, which suggests they didn't try to hard to test the software.

How hard would it be to add a manual selection to "speaker settings"?

Thanks for the replies. I tried removing all the application (including FM radio) that I'd added on since purchasing the N800, as well as removing the memory card, but still no luck getting audio. I've ordered a Nokia bluetooh headeset, and am hoping that it will work with this setup.

I routinely pair my Nokia Bluetooth headset (BH-200) with my N800. I can even use it to talk via Skype, which is great. The only trouble I ever had is once I tried to use the in-built video camera. After that the only sound I could get was via the headphones. BH-200 seemed to pair, but no sound was heard. The external speakers didn't work, either.

To solve this I had to make a call with Skype, connecting my headphones and talking with the internal microphone for the normal audio to work again. That cleared the Bluetooth connection and the external speakers. Go figure.

Seems the video camera, which is only enabled to work with the Nokia-specific software, somehow hogs the audio output and only using other software that uses audio input/output such as skype frees it.

I have no FM radio installed, and I tried to make Phonelink work, without success so far.

Hope this helps.

My headsets are working now.
The fix may have been some combination of removing the FM-radio app, rebooting, deleting BT config (by ssh in - its not enough to delete the devices in the GUI), editing settings, and swearing at it.

/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf : I have:

Disable=Sink
SCORouting=HCI
DisableHFP=true

is that correct?
The last one forces HSP (headset profile). Is that good?

I had the same issues with a Nokia and a Motorola headset. It doesn't look like a compatibility issue, but bugs in the N800.
You new headset may well work at first, as it starts with clean settings.
