I'm sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find an answer with the search.

I have installed applications using both the application manager and direct from Maemo.org using the green download button. Under the application manager/check for updates there are updates for several programs. When I click on an application to update it, it says it is unable to install because the program came from a different source. Does that mean I have to uninstall it first and re-install it?

TIA

Clive

That's possible, but it seems to usually mean you are already installed with the latest version and the other source makes it think there is an update available, but there isn't. That's how I interpret it, anyway.

Thanks for the reply but I don't think that is it. For instance if I check Canola, I have beta 2 installed and beta 5 shows on the updates but it won;t allow an update. There are about 10 programs the application manager says I can update.

Cheers

I had this with battery-status: 1.0-1 installed, 1.0-2 available, same error.

thought I would try it from the cmdline: apt-get install battery-status.

it happily downloaded and installed it, no warning, no error. and it works fine.

so not sure what's going on.
