Hi,

I thinking of getting a N800 but i have a few questions before I make the splash:

1. My cable TV box features a web login that allows me to view my TV via a web page that uses the VLC web plugin, would this work ok on the N800?

2. How is the browser performance for sites like Netvibes.com(V important), digg.com, gmail.com, google docs, youtube, vimeo, viddler?

3. How is video playback, do videos have to be converted?

4. Would it be too big/heavy to take to the gym as an MP3 player?

Thanks

1) I think we don't have the vlc plugin built. Depending on how your cable TV box works, you might be able to use the mplayer plugin instead.
2) Netvibes loaded a bit slow compared to the desktop, but that'll be fixed in the next OS upgrade (or so we heard). Flash doesn't perform too well. The flash video players drop frames.
3) Depends on the video.
4) It only feels as heavy as an HDD mp3 player to me. It really depends on what you feel is too heavy.

I take my N800 with me on 7-mi jogs all the time, so it will probably work ok in your gym. If I had an mp3 player that was smaller, I might use it instead.

3. There are simple conversion tools, that you can run on Windows or Mac or Linux, and the results are quite nice, for example for ripped DVDs. There's a nice YouTube client in a slick multimedia player for the N800 (Canola) and it does not require conversion, saves videos, etc.

4. Well, it's over 7 ounces, much too big for me. But geneven is probably stronger than I am. I couldn't jog 7 miles naked.

It's not a matter of weight; it's what the weight does for you. I could maybe jog 7 miles with the appropriate 50-lb exoskeleton.

Oh, and the weight doesn't bother me, but should 0.2% of my weight bother me?

I use mplayer and many files work with mplayer that don't work with the built in player.

thanks for the replies:

It's pretty important that I can watch the TV stream, is their any other info that I can provide? I know it also lets you open .pls files. I'm currently using Ubuntu with firefox and I can view the stream without any probs.

Also, the performance of embedded videos is crucial as at the end of the an internet tablet is pretty useless if you can't browse the web properly.

Thanks

@ burns: Honestly, doesn't sound as if the N8x0 is the device for you.
