Long time Nokia tablet admirer, finally ready to buy today.

Got two offers from Craigslist:
N810 for $250 (like new. 3 weeks old? replaced with ipod-touch)
N800 for $200 (unopened new. with 3 month Skype)

Decisions Decisions... for a first time buyer, technically advanced buyer -- which one you recommend? plz help!

((sorry for the crosspost, but i really need the advice. will delete as soon as purchased))

Even though this is the N800 section, I'd say the N810 for $250. Buy.com has it for $363 which is the lowest I've ever seen.

The N800 is run-of-the-mill $200, so it's not like you're getting a good deal on that.

Obviously there are a number of considerations here. If you want to feel like you saved a lot, probably go with the n810.

But as for me, I'll never upgrade from my n800 *unless* the newer model has a D-Pad somewhere on the face plate. The n810 doesn't have this, as its D-Pad is on the slide-out keyboard.

Ever since screen rotation was introduced for OS2008, the vast majority of time spent with my NIT has been reading blogs (with bloglines+skweezer) and news in portrait mode (also, reading gmail in portrait mode with iphone spoof is delightful; so is google reader mobile for iphone, if you use that). With the n800's D-Pad at the bottom of the tablet when in portrait mode, i can hold the tablet in my left hand and navigate down the news story with my left thumb. (In fact, this is ergonomically easier if you do *not* remap the D-Pad so that landscape's left button is portrait's down button.)

For me--again, this is just a personal preference--this is much better than having to scroll by touching the screen, whether it be with the stylus or with a finger, as you would have to do (right?)with the n810.

oh, and....you'll need this to change default d-pad link scrolling to page scrolling.

I prefer the N810 myself, especially when using portrait web browsing -- if you use the autorotate thing, zoom becomes page up and down whenever you are in portrait, very convenient.

I'm still a novice with these, but after playing around with an 810, for me the pull down keypad is unuable, the small flat keys are too hard to hit accurately with my average size thumbs, combined with less than stellar GPS dunction, and significantly less storage capacity than the 800, makes the 800 a better device IMO. Your best bet would be to spend a little quiality time with both models, then decide which one suits you best, just because the N810 holds more monetary value, doesnt mean its the best device for you.
