I was using gnumeric on my n810 (while charging it). I went to close it but forgot to save the file first, so it asked if I wanted to save it before closing. I chose yes. Then, everything froze. The application just sat on that screen for a long time and I could get nothing to work. I could find no way to kill gnumeric, so I pressed the power button and told it to shut down.

It then simply went to the NOKIA screen for a very long time and would not power down normally. I finally took the battery out and let it power completely down. After I put the battery back in and powered up, it again sat at the NOKIA screen for a very long time. Finally it booted up and things seem ok.

What can I do in the future when something crashes?

Early in the crash, you can press the escape key, the lower key on your Left hand, icon looked like a counter clockwise arrow, sometimes that would get you out. The key is doing it early. For a deep hard crash and stucked for several minutes, take out the battery is the ONLY choice.

what version of gnumeric you are using, app manager>Show installed apps
?

If I have an app freeze it sometimes helps to press the task switching button (the upper button to the left of the screen with the two squares in it). That should bring up a window where you can close an app by clicking on the X next to its name.

Incidentally, are you using the latest firmware?

What's the big deal? Take the battery out as you did, and that should stop the freeze. The worst that can happen is that you have to reflash, and that is not a fate worse than death. And you will hardly ever have to reflash.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try these next time.

gnumeric 1.8.2

I am pretty sure I am using the latest OS as I just flashed it about two weeks ago.

The only big deal is the amount of time I spent getting it back up. That and for a short time thinking my 810 was capoot. But yes, all is well now.
