My background is DOS/Windows ... I've had my N810 for about 6 months but just recently had time to explore what it can do.

I just flashed the latest release of OS2008 and have been installing apps. Some of them, like the gpesummary (and its gpe-calendar and gpe-contacts) are very straightforward. However, Apache (httpd) installed successfully and it is running -- (http://l127.0.0.1) entered in the Web browser shows and "It works" page. BUT -- I can't seem to get to the Apache configuration (/usr/conf) or document root files (/usr/htdocs ). These files don't seem to be accessible in the File Manager -- I'm thinking that a command prompt might be helpful.

Can someone advise on how to get a command prompt on the N810?

Thanks!!

X Terminal (osso-xterm) is in the Utilities menu.

The hierarchy shown in standard file & directory selectors is in /home/user/MyDocs/; a command line (as you guessed) or alternate file manager is required to access files outside that. GPE has a decent filemanager that permits access to the whole system.

You'll probably need to get root access; install the package becomeroot and then
Code:
sudo gainroot

Look for X Terminal in your applications list - I don't know if you've re-arranged your apps or not. I think in the default flash of the OS2008 image it appears under Utilities.

If you want to still use a file-manager-like interface have a look for emelfm2 - it's quite an advanced file-manager that can browse the whole tree structure.

It's a good idea to install something like easyroot or becomeroot as well so you can edit the files that are in system directories.

Have fun!

Thank you both for your help!
I was able to download becomeroot from the link at http://blog.xychen.org/archives/2007...-nokia-os2008/ , installed it, and can now traverse my folders with xterm. I also found emelfm2 and did a successful install. Now on to more exploration....
