Hi all. I need to copy text off a web page into a notepad, but I'd like to format the text before pasting. On the desktop I'd copy into vim/gvim & use ':set tw=60' & 'gqip' to format the paragraphs, which is exactly what I want. I've installed & tried vim on the tablet which works, but I can't copy the formatted result from the terminal into a maemo application. I could save it to a file, open the file in Notes & then copy it, but that's *really* kludgy. I even looked for a simple command line tool like fmt, but not to be found. Even if it were, the text would still be stuck in the terminal.

There must be some gui text editor that'll do that job. I've found lots of discussions about work-arounds & some specifics (like maemopad), but those editors do a lot more than what I need. Do I really need to install a programming editor to just to be able to format text?

TX

I tried installing maemopad+, but get an error 'Unable to install. Incompatible application package'. This package is for OS2008 & I'm running Diablo with the latest SSU. Can anybody else install it?

I've also tried the latest version of Notecase, but it doesn't seem to have the formatting capability I'm after.

I don't suppose anyone has gVIM running under Maemo that they haven't posted about?

Posting your log from the application manager after the install has failed would be nice.

Good suggestion, but unfortunately there's no button on the error prompt to view the errors & there's nothing in the Tools, Log... window either. Here's a copy of the install file if that might help. I've never looked at one before so I don't know what, if anything, might be wrong:

Code:
[install]
repo_name = maemo Extras
catalogues = maemo-extras-chinook
repo_deb = deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras scirocco free
repo_deb_3 = deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras bora free
package  = maemopadplus

[maemo-extras-chinook]
filter_dist = chinook
name = maemo Extras
uri = http://repostory.maemo.org/extras/
dist = chinook
components = free

Hmm, I can see one error in the install:
http://repostory.maemo.org/extras/

Should be :
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/

If you really can't get it to install, you may just want to dpkg -i the deb here:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p...est2_armel.deb

That's exactly what I was just trying, but then I got an unavailable dependency, which I tracked to liwpeditor-plus, but I then get the 'incompatible application package' error for that package.

What's the easiest way for me to be able to run gVIM? Is it available if I install qole's Debian package?

I think you may need to be red pill mode as that does not have the user/ section. I'd recommend going in and then going back into bluepill after you have installed

No idea, sorry.
