I've just started using Canola2. Overall it seems like a great program, but I have a couple of questions that searching here and on the openbossa site haven't answered.

1) Podcasting - Podcasts are great, but all I've been able to get to work so far is the feeds section. I love how easy it was to download The Economist's podcast, but is there a way to have it auto-download so that I don't have to manually initiate? What is the Today's episodes and Current Downloads for? On my installation they fail to load and are empty respectively. If there is a thread or other resource that gives good info on starting out with Podcasts in Canola that would be appreciated.

2) Launching Canola is pretty slow. Currently takes about 2 and a half minutes. I've got about 12GB of music now, and will probably add another 20GB when 32GB cards are more affordable. Is the size of the library responsible for the slow launch, and should I expect it to be much worse when I have a 30GB+ library?

3) Metadata - A bunch of the metadata for my music has gotten screwed up somewhere along the way. Can I edit this directly from Canola? It would be handy when a song comes up and I'm on the go to be able to correct the information right then, rather than have to try to remember to do at home.

Thanks for any help and apologies if any of these topics have been covered in depth already.

Hi, welcome on board, feel free to ask anything else I will try to answer the best I can.

1) Podcasting - Podcasts are great, but all I've been able to get to work so far is the feeds section. I love how easy it was to download The Economist's podcast, but is there a way to have it auto-download so that I don't have to manually initiate? Well, the "auto" download feature is a big request. We know a lot of users want it. but it needs a lot of caution to be implemented, after all a lot of users still use paid phone connectivity, the system is limited, so I don't want to start downloading stuff while you are playing amultiplayer game or listening to your internet radio. So :

Start the download of episodes would :

a. start your radio activity *radio - wifi or bluetooth
b. possibly drain your battery without a clear authorization from you
c. Could inflict in cost to some uses

So until we are able to solve this and add of course the ability to have development power to do so, this still out. We can do it, but in front of it still a couple of heavy problems (you are listing some of them below)

Launching also checks the metada. So this integrity checks does make the boot slower. So we are improving this, removing the integrity check The check reduced a lot the possibility of a mistake when using the program, but when bigger cards started appearing it became a drag.

This will be fixed soon. Solution will be : de-active the check on startup and you will need to manually refresh the library when changing disks or files (everything comes with a price) : )

3) Metadata - A bunch of the metadata for my music has gotten screwed up somewhere along the way. Can I edit this directly from Canola? It would be handy when a song comes up and I'm on the go to be able to correct the information right then, rather than have to try to remember to do at home.
Not yet. This has been asked more and more, and while it seems doable, we need to solve the scanner problems first. So I don't see it coming in the next 2 releases. But it's a interesting feature to add for sure.

Thanks for any help and apologies if any of these topics have been covered in depth already.
dont worry sometimes they are covered in different manners or in personal manners...

Anyhow I use requests as the best way to figure out what feature to focus or what bug to solve first, so your post has been of great help!

Thanks again!

Thank you Marcelo for your answers both here and in other threads. I've been reading a bunch and your comments have been very informative and helpful. Much appreciated.

I understand not having automatic downloads, and it really isn't much trouble to manually initiate, just need to get in the habit of doing this at breakfast.

How about the other sections of the podcast feature? I feel stupid that I can't get anything to work except the "My Feeds." Am I missing something?

And one last question, is it possible to lock just the screen and not the buttons? I love having the hard buttons for volume and track advance, but have trouble with the screen when carrying in my pants pocket.
