That would be great, since the Offical Image at http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N810wimax.php does not work.

The Nokia Internet Software Updater says the image is unsupported by my tablet. I posted a screenshot to the original bug, and I hope they Nokia/Maemo guys will notice even though the bug is marked as resolved. Shall I make a new bug?

I solved my problem... I think. http://maemogeek.blogspot.com/2007/1...nto-nokia.html

I unpacked the FIASCO image and only flashed the rootfs, since I only had a software issue. And it works now! Just to test the WiMax. And I'm a bit concerned that the "About Product" says:
"Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition <unknown>
Version: <unknown>"

There seems to have been in issue such that my hardware version is 1007 while the released image is for 1001. However, the About Product still sees the WiMAX MAC Address, so thats good.

Hello,

Here's what I did:

[root@localhost ~]# ./flasher-3.0.amd64 -n /root/initfs.jffs2 -k /root/zImage -r /root/rootfs.jffs2 -f -R
flasher v0.8.1 (Jan 5 2007)

USB device found found at bus 001, device address 058
Found device RX-48, hardware revision 1001
NOLO version 1.1.14
Version of 'sw-release': RX-48_DIABLO_0.2008.14-9_PR_MR0
Sending kernel image (1500 kB)...
100% (1500 of 1500 kB, avg. 13763 kB/s)
Flashing kernel... done.
Sending initfs image (3084 kB)...
100% (3084 of 3084 kB, avg. 14901 kB/s)
Flashing initfs... done.
Sending and flashing rootfs image (118528 kB)...
100% (118528 of 118528 kB, avg. 6015 kB/s)
Finishing flashing... done

Finally, Skype, mplayer, and maemo-mapper works!

Is there a way to use Google maps with the GPS?

Possibly with the Palm version of Google Maps and GVM, although I don't think so.

But you can use Google Maps images in MM; it uses Google for routing, searching POI, etc., so from a data perspective it's equivalent.

Has there been any update on this situation? I ran into a problem with the firmware thats on my device and it's essentially unusable.

Is flashing it with the incompatible wimax firmware the only option? I really don't feel like installing linux to correct this one issue

Remember, you don't need to "install" Linux. Just use a virtual machine, or Damn Small Linux. Its easy, just load it to a flash drive with the flasher util and the firmware, and boom, its done.
