Wouldn't really call this a competitor, but sort of interesting. Just appeared on the UK scene, going to be sold by O2 for around £150. Haven't found tech spec yet.

I keep an N800 beside the phone for making GrandCentral calls. This has definitely pushed me to get a slide show set up on it, so it does something "pretty" while not in use

Interesting; the suggestion is that the screen of this device stays "on" for long periods of time...

Whether you display the Home Screen Menu or the warmth of a family slide show, its stunning good looks are a welcome enhancement to any room in your home.

Read the comments under the Engadget article. Two guys claim to work at O2 and said that "to use it you have to have it plugged into the mains" and it has "no internet browser".

They might just be mischief makers, but they were right about some other specs (e.g. 1GB internal memory), and the screenshots don't show any kind of web browser icon, so maybe the product is just a closed walled garden.
