Hi! I'm a relatively new owner of an NIT 770 I got from eBay a couple months ago. The seller put OS2008HE on it. I've installed FBReader and OMWeather as well as becomeroot so I could disable the metalayer-crawler. Extended swap to 64MB on a 2GB MMC.

The last two days I've been having a weird power issue -- or the device is not coming out of sleep properly?

Everything has been working great - I leave it on all the time and during the day occasionally check e-mail and weather. At night I use it to read. It's left in offline mode when I am not using wifi.

Well, starting yesterday, when I took the cover off, I found the device doesn't unlock/wake up as usual. It looked like it was off even though I know I left it with more than half battery. Thinking maybe I had forgotten to switch to offline mode and the battery died, I plugged in the charger, left it for a half hour and turned it on. The device turned back on, but it rebooted twice, each time after about a minute. Turned it off, took out the battery. Then it turned on normally and stayed on.

This morning, battery was charged to full (I never have anything saying the battery is full -- just that the indicator stops blinking. If I click it, it says charging. When off AC it never says how much battery is left when I click it). I had checked it a couple times during the day to see if it was still on, and it was.

About 11:30pm (so, ~14 hours off AC) I go to use it and it's off again. I have to press the power button a few times to get it to respond. It goes through the boot process and once started, it'll reboot after about 1 minute. This time after it booted, I turned it off, took out the battery and it worked fine, but the battery was now down to 25%. I've plugged it in to charge as I type this. I don't turn it off when it's charging.

The only thing that happened differently before this started was that I got a low battery warning. I don't usually let the battery get that low before I charge. It didn't die, but the indicator was red and I got the message. Left it to charge to full while it was on.

Here are some of my thoughts:
+ it's not coming out of sleep (or whatever it does when the cover is on) properly
+ battery needs replacing
+ for whatever reason, it's just dying

Thanks for reading - long winded, but I wanted to provide all the info I had. Anyone have any ideas about what the problem is or what I can do to fix it? Do I need to reflash to OS2008HE?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update:

I disabled the swap file and re-enabled it so it built a new one. Seems to have fixed it as I have had no shut down or reboot problems in two days.

Anything that keeps the cpu active (actually it's that and also anything that keeps timers active, which stops dyntick from slowing the tickrate right down, e.g. quite often the web browser) will quickly kill the battery (e.g. overnight), likewise with things that stop parts of the hardware from being shutdown (which was probably the case with your swap file).
