I had a OS2005 770 tablet for approx 5 months with no problems. Then one day would simply not boot/turn on. Tried everything referenced in these forums, i.e., different battery, removing battery, inserting AC adapter. No luck. Strange thing was that unit would still show it was charging battery if connected, simply not boot.

Sent to Nokia and received replacement 770. Promptly flashed to OS2006 and ran fine for about a month. Then same problem showed up.

Any ideas, other than sending the replacement unit back for another replacement would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Me too! See following threads:

Right now, my 770 powers up only if plugged into the AC adapter... it seems a combination of a hardware and a software issue... seemingly related to being used with WiFi. At times it powerups fine then it gets into a state into a state in which it only powerups with AC power.

I wish Nokia would define what the problem is and fix it... :-(

I am afraid you are right, i.e., hardware/software issue.

Back it goes to Nokia for the second time.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Right after i wrote my msg above, I did turn my unit off and was able to turn it back on fine... so this condition comes and goes – and mind you my battery had at least 3/4 charge.

I get the sense that the problem occurs at shutdown... as if under certain conditions power / battery status is not saved properly and that in turn causes powerup to fail...

When that happens, powerup with the AC adapter plugged in always works. I've given to the habit of merely keeping my unit on or on standby when not in use... so I largely skirt the problem this way.

When you return your unit, is there a special line for suppor tof the Nokia 770 – or are you merely contacting the general phone support line? Do they seem aware of this problem with our Internet Tablets?

I just used the general line and they are clueless. They had me ship the first unit to Florida when it should have gone to Texas. Nobody seems to know much if anything about the 770, let alone the problems it is having.

I can't beleive this. This behavior is happening to my nokia 770. The unit will not power on when it's not connected to the power adapter even though my battery is full. I thought maybe my battery wasn't so I charged it overnight and it still does that. From what I can tell, from the off position, it boots up right into the nokia and hand symbol without showing the bootup status bar at the bottom of the 770 screen. When I shut it off, I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it into the AC adapter. From booting and rebooting several times, it fixed itself. But it's happening at random times so I don't know if I can turn it on or not. I was so frustrated when I couldn't turn it on when I need it. I first notice this when my battery bar icon was missing and I couldn't hit the power button to shut it off. It would not respond. I pulled the battery and since then it's been acting strangely.

Is this a hardware thing or software, does anyone know? I hate to reflash my 770 but I'll do it if I have to. I hope I don't have to send it to nokia. I hate dealing with returns.

I tried reflashing it but it didn't help with this problem. I am getting the sense that if you shut down the unit when everything is quiett, i., no network activity whatsover, no apps active, etc., then subsequently powerup on battery power does work fine.

But don't ask me to define what constitutes a clean shutdown. I do not know if the Nokia 770 hardware has a power management chip whose state gets messed up say by a bad shutdown... and subsequently upon attempting to powerup it signals insufficient power to boot up.

I've given to carry my Nokia 770 in stand-bye mode to avoid this problem most of the time... else one is forced to carry around the AC adapter for those times the darn unit refuses to powerup.
