Well, I never developed for N810, but I do have some Linux programming experience, and programming is what I do for living, so this shouldn't take long to fix.

Obviously, I don't have the source code, but it should only be a few lines of code. In fact, I would guess that if the media player were open source, this issue wouldn't be here now

Actually, as I said earlier, Media Player uses and relies on gstreamer, so you'll want to take a look at that for the streaming issues.. and that is open source.

Yes, but I would suspect that trying to reconnect must be done from the application that calls gstreamer. It might be possible to do it by modifying gstreamer, but that would be a very, very ugly hack and would probably break compatibility with other applications that rely on a certain behaviour of gstreamer.

mplayer is "nice" but canola? ugh. i do wish there was a audio player out there that did not take over the entire interface (yes i know there is a magic word to get canola in a window, but why is it not a option available thru the settings?!), and that did not force me to use a database (especially the kind that fails to include audio files with faulty or missing metadata).

along these lines.. I use the -loop 0 arg for mplayer to reconnect hands free indefinitely when stream is lost

I haven't tested the repeat feature with media player, but maybe it could give similar results?
never mind, just test the repeat feature in media player. no luck
still wants interaction.

I'm happy with this.. very little interaction once started.
mplayer -really-quiet -playlist ~/playlists/sofa.ogg.m3u -loop 0
