First, has anyone built a bike/motorcycle mount for the N900? I don't ride that often, but it would be great to have a mounting option available. I realize that most likely it will have to be something custom fabbed, but just wanted to see if anyone had started working on anything and wanted to share ideas.

Second, the main apps needed would be navigation and basic phone functions (answer, reject, contacts, etc) and possible some music options (media player, fm radio, etc). How "finger friendly" would they be when wearing gloves (extra large button areas)? A "motorcycle mode" or big-button mode could be a good touch, but I realize this is a pretty niche market but that could be a new selling point to compete against devices like Garmin zumo series.

FYI, I don't have it yet but will be looking into getting an in-helmet bluetooth system. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm afraid that it'd probably be difficult to use the touchscreen with real motorcycle gloves on, honestly.
Do you run a tankbag? I often ran maemo mapper on my n810 in the map portion of my Wolfman bag. I'd look into maybe strapping down a Pelican 1010 case (seems to be about the right size, and the top is transparent) and then just answering calls with your in-helmet system. I'm not sure whether the n900 supports voice dialing, but if it did then that would meet most of your needs I'd think- music, incoming/outgoing calls, and the ability to use maps and see incoming caller ID. A Pelican should keep the n900 safe in all but the worst spills, too.

It would be impossible if the screen were capacitive

@jiiv - Good idea, but I was hoping to be able to interact with it (no, I'm not going to be playing games while riding, haha). Either way, I may pick one of those up if I can't get a permanent mount.

Do we know if there are any docks being worked on (not necessarily motorcycle specific)?

I'd love to have it directly in front of me like the pics toward the bottom of this post.

Hrm...what kind of weather do you ride in? I was looking at it from a rain or shine perspective, which is why I suggested the Pelican. Was it not for the n900's curved back it probably wouldn't be too hard to fabricate a mounting plate for use with rubberized straps or something...does anyone know if the 900 comes with a car mount like the n810? I'd want to isolate it from vibration as much as possible, but if there was a good way to hold it down you could get by with something like

over your gloves. I'm a little concerned that the screen will be too small for mounted use, though.

Buy a $100 used N800 for this. Nokia makes a mount for it that can bolt up to a handle bar clamp.

The n800 or a Q5 might actually be a good idea; just paired to the n900 for GPS. Bigger screen (for viewing and interaction) and cheaper to replace in the event you don't keep the rubber side down...
