How do I copy a word or a number or a sentence from the built in gmail client on N900.
Or is this something that is missing on this device?
If this is missing is there a bugzilla on this?
If not how do you do it?

No this feature doesn't exist like thousand others. There is a bug report open for this https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5033 if you can say it's a bug.

When composing an e-mail, place the cursor where you want it, hold the shift key down and manipulate with the up, down, left and right arrows.

You are right. If you read an e-mail you can't copy anything. A workaround would be to start an reply and then mark (with shift and arrow keys) the text you want to copy and then hit strg+c. See also jsbigs post .
