a quick question. i was looking at the 'details' of the high-res images i have been taking. they state the jpeg quality to be 85.5

why not 100?

This has been discussed before, search camera quality, its to do with gstreamer and the camerad config file. You'll find it I'm sure.

100 does not improve image quality that much, but does increase image files quite a bit (with 100 bringing 4-5 megabyte files). It would be better if it was settable from the camera application, but it is a reasonable value considering you might be pushing those files through sharing plugins. There might be a frontend in a few days which will allow image/video codec settings in an end-user friendly way.

For reference, it's the config file referenced in this post.
After a little discussion and experimentation the guys there discovered that the setting it was already on was a very good compromise.
