It sickens me too. I sneak around with a big felt tip pen at night and correct notices for "Onion's 5 for £!" and Tesco selling "Fuel, clothes and CD's"
Personally, however, I find it superfluous in this usage.

We use an apostrophe to create plural forms in two limited situations: for pluralized letters of the alphabet and when we are trying to create the plural form of a word that refers to the word itself. Here we also should italicize this "word as word," but not the 's ending that belongs to it. Do not use the apostrophe+s to create the plural of acronyms (pronounceable abbreviations such as laser and IRA and URL*) and other abbreviations. (A possible exception to this last rule is an acronym that ends in "S": "We filed four NOS's in that folder.")
So, actually, it's CDs. Apostrophes work for C's and D's, but CD is an acronym, so, CDs. (C.D.'s works, but is apparently "frowned upon" because dots are unnecessary in acronyms and are deprecated).
Edit: I couldn't find a definitive answer on acronyms that end in S but the post is about contractions anyway.

I'm fairly tolerant of contraction/plural errors in casual conversation-- but seeing them in professional print makes me ill. Proofreading is a fading art it seems.

I don't know about firefox but opera 10 happens to have spell check built in. Syntax is another story, but if at least the words are correct, it's a step forward.

I kid, it helps, but on average a normal post has at least one I missed and the checker agreed upon.
"Spellchecker" is not a word, by the way, according to Firefox.
