Here is a video fo N800 running Window Maker with ROX

OK, its not here yet, I will post as soon as youtube processes the rest of the video, I did not realize it took so long. I will post a link as soon as its done. you guys killed my cable modem last time.

Updated tar to follow, maybe in about a week, or two. I am mad busy this week.

OK, I added ROX desktop to use with Window Maker and it works great, ok real good anyway.

In the video, you can see me drag local file to mplayer on taskbar and run it. You will also need to pay attention on this one, you will see me start minimo, and drag a link from ITT to mplayer on taskbar and play (its my first posting of Window Maker video. It works really great. Also watch you can switch desktops while watching video, leave video paused and go do something real quick.

I have shortcut to application manager on taskbar also, not really shown in video, but while you can install applications no problem, there is no menu tab, so no adding repos or refreshing., although, both can be done from command line.

I added a shortcut to the connection manager on the taskbar also, you will see in video, right after I screw up kismet by exiting incorrectly, but it recovered anyway.

Anyway, this is way cool, and we will have desktop options in the future, hacked or whatever. I will keep working this if only for myself...

What needs to be done (ROX). I can not get 0launch and some other programs to install because of missing python parts. no matter how hard I try. Any python braniacs help me get, distutils, compiler, config?

All of the menu items on ROX panel, are very easy to create.

Anyway, If you are interested in providing any input (by that, I be time and effort) in helping create a solid easily installable alternate Window Manager, I would love to let you help out. I also do not have a 770 anymore, so I would like to find someone to test prior to releasing anything, so everyone can use this. You should probably have bootmenu installed and be able to reflash and test again.

How about this. I created a way to change the wallpaper, using local file or dragging link from minimo.

If you drag a URL to the "Drag URL Here" It will download the file, place it in the current directory, and set it as the current background. There is a stretched, scaled, and tiles. Its pretty sweet, I hacked Wallpaper for ROX to make it work. I could only get it to set scaled by default, and that does not seem to work the best. If I download a image like 1024x768 stretched works great, and scaled does not cover the screen. Maybe I am confused about what scaled and stretched mean, but I digress.

OK, How about the aterm with transparency, is that sweet or what. It may use some extra memory but does not use anymore cpu than the regular xterm.

Is this cool or what?

Aint He Cute!

N800 Developer RootFS has these already (at least, the N770 one did if memory serves.)

http://www.maemo.org/downloads/download-rootfs.html

In fact, the developer rootfs is probably a better base for a WM distribution --- it's also much easier to distribute if I read the license right.

Furthermore, those are pure-python libraries, and can be copied from any Python 2.5 installation. Look inside "lib" for the "compiler" directory and the "distutils" directory. Copy them into the appropriate lib directory for Python on the N800, and you should be fine.

That is good to know, I will check out the 2.5 distribution and see if I can get it working. I have also toyed with the idea of the developer rootfs. but then users either need to install that prior my tarball, or I have to distribute the entire OS, and I really do not have bandwidth to do this.

I am really close to putting this tarball up though, it has some really cool stuff in it. Perhaps if we can get enough interest and people want to start to help make this a reality, we can layout a roadmap to what should be accomplished.

While you can see above ROX is running niceley, most features do not work, everything you do see is me hacking together a desktop environment. I do not see me trying to fix ROX fully at this point, but I will look into this for the release following then next one.

I would love for someone to find a way to bind right click to something
