Is there a way to let the video continue playing while it's in the background? And olsa when you put it on the screenlock?

Is this possible with the default player?

Or some other app?

Thanks

There is an application that allows you to press the camera key to enter the multitasking menu. If you open a video and press the cam key your video will continue to play in the window. You can then do other things including locking the screen and listening to the audio from your video.

Unfortunately, I dont remember the name of the application.

EDIT: I believe the application is called camkeyd.

Probably the first response people will give you here is, 'are you crazy? This will completely drain your battery, steal your wallet and cheat with your wife!"

And the second one, "it is probably possible, but why bother?"

Third one is mine, "I have tried doing it with mplayer -rootwin but it didn't work. Maybe it works if you recompile xwinwrap to the N900 using scratchbox and try using it with mplayer."

Er... You just want the video to continue playing, not make it substitute the background like in Android, heh? Lame me. I misunderstood your question, sorry.

The name of the application Deaconclgi refers to is camkeyd ("Camera Key Dæmon").

Anyway... just for the record, the xwinwrap possibility let me curious and i tried it, compiled for the N900 and tried it with mplayer.

It didn't work. It did indeed show the mplayer movie on the screen, but no UI elements and I wasn't able to interact with it either. I used "power" and "Ctrl-backspace" to get back the UI but then the video was not showing in the background (the sound was working and the mplayer text showed it running, though).

Thanks for all the replies

this is surely needed for example: when you download a music clip from youtube, I just want to listen to the music, no need to see the clip :P

I'm going to try out mediabox, lets see how good that is :P

Edit: MediaBox works great for playing in the background! thanks!

Only music is enough for me, since I want to listen to the downloaded musics

how did you do that with mplayer?

Edit:
Could this be also done with the build in player??
