The Zune, Xbox, and Office features will be the draws. Zune is the best multimedia experience out there. Xbox is arguably one of the best, and even if you feel like Playstation is better, its still the best platform out of any offerings companies in the Phone market might be associated with. Office will be a massive draw for Corporate markets.

From my experience in OS development, I know that it is POSSIBLE for "non-native" languages to be faster than "native" languages because it is possible for those non-native ones like C# to be trusted. This means they can run in ring 0, removing all overhead associated with context switching. Furthermore C# will obviously be JIT'd so will approach native speed anyway. Together native apps don't look so attractive anymore. Of course I have no idea if this is actually what will happen on Windows Phone 7.

For me, the Zune will be the biggest draw. I love me some media and Zune has grown leaps and bounds better than Apple in every possible category. Plus I love coding in C# and XNA is awesome to work with.

Well what isn't locked down almost all new platforms coming out are locked down keep in mind that Symbian has always been locked down and code always had to be signed by Symbian LTD and Symbian Foundation also now Bada is coming out and it will be similar in that way whether we like it or not locked down platforms are the future a very bad future for us but most people are to stupid to care at least there is still Meego/Maemo/Moblin, Android, Webos, Blackberry, and Legacy Window Mobile.

I wouldn't say they're 'stupid' per say. Sure, this will be aimed at consumers and business people, but I'm also waiting for it. Open Source is fun and awesome but hackers like challenges. They want to break into things that they shouldn't be getting into. Example: The only reason I'd buy an apple product would be to jail break it.

Now just replace apple with Windows Phone 7 phone and you have the reason I'm excited about the OS. Especially with microsoft forcing the makers to provide high end specs. Which could work as an advantage in the long term; no longer will we have to worry about a hack working across a wide verity of products because of the technical specs.

Microsoft wants only High-Mid to High-End range phones for their operating system. By setting the specs so high it forces the manufacturers to do some real innovation or to always try and get better parts if they want to sell their phone. No more cheap pieces of junk.

I hope someone makes an unofficial native sdk similar to openzdk for the Zune. I don't they didn't have to lock down there platform all they had to do was ad that nice interface they created and it would be perfectly consumer friendly. Consumer friendliness isn't determined by how locked down something is they just needed to make it touch friendly and easy to use.

Makes sense to me. If you look back to when Vista came out on desktop PCs, a lot of it's poor reputation was caused my manufacturers releasing underpowered crappy laptops which ran Vista really really slowly, and contributed heavily to Vista's poor reputation.

The issue may not be so bad with WinMo7 but I do remember seing some really poor WinMo6 devices. By forcing them to have a decent spec they avoid a slew of crap phones making their new SmartPhone OS look bad.

Imagine if the N900 only came with a 300MHz CPU and no GPU. People would think Maemo is awful. Or go and use an N97 for a few days and see why people are slagging off the latest version of Symbian.

I don't know 500mhz with 3d accelerator seems more reasonable system requirements. I will wait to give my final verdict on Windows Phone 7.

The video in this article has me honestly anticipating Windows Phone 7... which, I didn't think could have happened.

Well it looks like it has decent email and social networking support, voice recognition and lots of eye candy.

Nothing that appeals to me too much.

I kinda like it. It does appear to do the functionality of a smartphone smartly and clearly. I will surely be looking forward to buying one.
