Sorry for asking a question that must be very simple...but I want to download vncviewer for my N800; I found the files at https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...release_id=318
This lists 2 .deb files and a source file. I assume I don't need the source file.
I understand how to download repositories and then select applications within them to install..but what do I do with 2 .deb files?
Thanks,
Tom

You dont need both to install.

I use VNC to view my Vista platform on my n800 and all I did was point the Application manager to the .deb file click here and the installtion will begin.

OR you can just go on the maemo website and click the .deb file and it will automatically download and then ask you to install.

Check out my short video of my n800 with VNC.

BTW: If you use an ADSL router which is behind a firewall make sure you go into your configuration ie: http://192.168.2.1 and open port 5900, as vnc works through this port and also set to which IP address it will be using for example on my laptop my ip address ends in 2 and my n800 is usually 3 so I set my n800 ip address to open port 5900 which will then connect to my laptops IP thus making a server connection.

Sorry if this isn't clear that's basically what I had to go through before hours of fiddling about. also the cool thing about VNC is you can rotate the screen so you can view it like a PDA (vertical).

Adam -
Thanks for the info. I never in a million years would have realized that port 5900 needed to be open. I found another post on a Linux forum that said 5901 and 177 also need to be open--haven't a clue why, but I'm connected to a Linux box now. What software are you running to connect to Windows?

Well with vnc server you can set your own port, 5900 is just the default. As long as you remember to open the port in your network config.

Atm im using vnc on my n800 to view my Windows Vista os, but I want to try using rdesktop, someone said it had more options to play around with.

Same problem, but this time it says: ”NO APPLICATOIN TO OPEN WITH”

So, I’m trying to install: http://maemo.org/downloads/product/ukmp/ directly in N800 by clicking “Click to install”. However, it won’t do it! It does not recognize the deb file. Has my friend messed something badly or is there a way to fix it?

Hmm, so I downloaded the deb file, double clicked it, and it did install itself. I wonder though, why it won’t do it automatically.
