Loving my n900 as I love Linux one annoying feature is that there is no widget from what I can see for text messages I have the email widget so I can see them but when I get a text the message pops up and dissapears .. i had a desire Android before and the txt message widget shows how many text I had ... is there anything on maemo ?

Depending on exactly what you are looking for...
Conversations widget - to show conversations on desktop
Call notify - to show a notification for missed calls/msgs in status area
Maenotify - to show detailed info on lock screen

There's the Conversations widget which should work for IMs and SMS.

have tried to find call notify and maenotify but cant see them in the repositories any ideas where they are pls ???
