Mod: That's what I'm fantasizing about... I know Maemo doesn't do the 770's hardware justice. A slimmed down OS would offer much better performance. The 770's form factor is perfect... a hard case, touch screen, pocket sized... ditch the Hildon UI and aside from ARM, a tonne more apps become available with little modification.
We should give money to Paul Guyot so he can finish Einstein and Relativity. This would essentially give us a Linux microkernel OS with a Newton GUI.
Newton was a very memory- and resource-conscientious OS: It had to do all its stuff within a few megabytes of ROM.
The only drawback is that, unless we can work out some kind of royalties deal with Apple, everyone who wants to use Einstein needs to own a MessagePad 2X00 as well, as part of the procedure involves copying the Newton ROMs into the new computer.
