This weekend I was trying to encode a Welcome Video and I was not able to get it to work on the N900. During the boot up process the audio was working fine but the screen stayed blank no matter what I was using to encode it.

I tried a variety of formats without luck.

Code:

VIDEO:  [XVID]  800x480  12bpp  29.970 fps  400.2 kbps (48.9 byte/s)
VIDEO:  [FMP4]  800x480  24bpp  29.970 fps  3064.9 kbps (374.1 kbyte/s)
VIDEO:  [XVID]  800x480  12bpp  25.000 fps  681.5 kbps (83.2 kbyte/s)
VIDEO:  [FMP4]  800x480  24bpp  25.000 fps  1992.2 kbps (243.2 kbyte/s)

What are the magic ingredients? What are the exact settings that I need to use in order to get mencoder to encode the video properly?

Not sure if this will help but my video works and these are the properties:
VIDEO
Length: 08 seconds
Width: 800
Height: 480
Data rate: 2000kbps
Total bit rate: 2128kbps
Frame rate: 24 f/s
Format: .avi

AUDIO
Bit rate: 128kbps
Channels: 2(stereo)
Audio sample rate 22 kHz
