how about to intall vietnamess font for Nokia N800. I thing it not working in N800. I don't know how to read some news inweb site from viet nam.

To read vietnamese web,you need to copy some Unicode font to /usr/share/fonts.First,you need to install becomeroot,then using Xterm,execute command:sudo gainroot
then
su -
then
cp -p /media/mmc1/nameofunicodefontfolder/*.ttf /usr/share/fonts
then
fc-cache -f
then reboot the device

Would that work for any lang ??

And please tell me where to get the unicods from ??

And whats the comand with mmc1 . . . Why do you wana copy the folder to the mmc1 ??

but for arabic . . . i cant read anything coz its from right to left and the n800 see the font from left to right ??

i have installed arial and Iqraa

the font is good but from the wrong side

you just go to google pages and search for unicodes fonts,there are a lots of web pages for downloading,i just copy the all file in the folder in mmc to filesystem.

what you need ,as root,execute :rm /home/share/fonts/nameoffont.ttf

sudo gainroot isnot working with my N800. Is there anyway to get root access?

See the error messages:

/ $ sudo gainroot
cal_read_block (r&d mode): size zero, block not found?
Enagel RD mode if you want to break your device

/ $ cp -i /media/mmc1/*.ttf /usr/share/fonts
CP: unable to open ' /usr/share/fonts/tahoma.ttf' : Persmission Denied

I was able to install Vietnamese fonts to my 770 with OS2007HE.

0. Get Xterm packet for your Nokia.
1. gain root access. (see http://maemo.org/community/wiki/HowDoiBecomeRoot )
2. copy font file (truetype font ,arial for example, from Windows) to the MMC.
3. copy file from MMC to /usr/share/font/truetype
( "sudo su -" to get the root prompt )
4. run "fc-cache -f -v" to create new font cache.
5. Start the browser !
