As documented in the FAQ, this error occurred after youtube switched up its interface, and has been fixed shortly thereafter in youtube-dl.

Code:
youtube-dl --update
should update youtube-dl to the newest version and fix the problem.

(Disclaimer: I'm slowly helping @phihag with youtube-dl and you can see some commits of mine in his tree, trying to support other sites and/or getting the code cleaner, while also maintaining youtube-dl in Debian proper---and, as a side efect, in Ubuntu).

It would be cool to have a fresh package of youtube-dl for my n900.

I would not mind if people spoon-fed me some quick instructions so that, whenever I uploaded a new version of youtube-dl to Debian, I automatically created a new version/package of youtube-dl for maemo also.

Regards.
