I've made probably 20 internet calls using the Google Talk client on my n800. Of those calls, only once could I hear the other party (same person each call, same configuration). All of the other times it was as if they didn't have a mic plugged in. They can hear me fine, however. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?

i do work with some VoIP, and usually when one party doesnt hear the other, it indicates packet loss or latency. VoIP uses UDP as its transport mechanism, and does not resend packets like TCP does.

VoIP that we work with is over a VPN tunnel and we have teleworker connections (ISP gives a larger upload and download pipe). i think this is more due to the VPN than the VoIP, but may be a place to start looking.

when talking to the ISP, see if your connection is dropping packets or spiking on round trip times (latency). simple things like using good connectors, and eliminating as many splits in the coax as possible makes an impovement(if you are using a cable connection). if you can get your cable modem on one of the first splits of the coax, you can clear up some issues.

Google Talk VOIP works fine on my laptop (I've never had a problem hearing or being heard) -- so I can't imagine it's an ISP issue.

I have the same problem, except I hear them for about 1min30secs and then they go quiet, but they can still hear me.

Just remembered, this is only if I call them. If they call me it's fine!

I'm using N800 (2006 s/w version) via Netgear DG834PN.

I don't have any probs on my PC running Google's client.
