1) I came across a pair of scripts that is supposed to broadcast a simple word "Hello" via UDP:

2) Since it mentioned Python, I downloaded and Installed Python 2.7 on my Win2K PC:

3) I tried some really beginner stuff. It seems to work just like the good old BASIC that I am used to:

4) But, when I tried the script in Pt. 1), I got error message on the first line.

5) Realizing that PyS60 mentioned in Pt. 1) probably is another "environment", I looked for it and installed PythonForS60, 2.0.0 by simply clicking on the .... SetUp.exe:

6) A "PyS60 Application Packager" icon appears on my PC's Desktop. It looks encouraging. However, double clicking on it only gives me sand-clock for a few seconds, then nothing follows.

7) I thought that maybe Win2K is too old for Python. So, I tried to repeat step 5) directly on a WinXP PC without going through Step 2) first. But, when I went through Step 6), I got an Windows error message saying that ensymble_gui.pyw cannot be opened. And, it suggested me to search on the web for solution. But, it ended up with Microsoft suggesting that my PC had Registry errors and recommends to use a list of third party utilities to rectify this. Half of these advertise being "free". But, after scanning, they ask me to buy the software first before correct the errors. Since I am already suspicious about this peculiar series of events that I have never experienced before and I do not know whether any of them actually work, I did not fall for it.

8) I tried Registry Repair Pro that I have been using for many years (used to be truly free. Now they charge on new downloads. The difference appears that the full version corrects file association types of errors that the ones in Step 7) also do.):

After I cleared up the registry entry errors (Not too many, since I occasionally run this utility to keep my registry clean.), the same error MSG in Step 7) persisted.

9) Then, I did Step 2) to install Python 2.7 on my WinXP PC. The Windows error message disappeared, but the same sand clock behavior of Step 6) showed up.

10) I uninstall both Python 2.7 and PyS60 from my WinXP and then install Python 2.7 first followed by PyS60. The same sand clock behavior is still there. So, the behavior on Win2K and WinXP are pretty much the same.

11) A newer version Python 3.1.2 is already available that I did not start with, because I read about some support and compatibility issues. Since I could not get going with Python 2.7, I tried with Python 3.1.2. I got the same behaviors.

I must have missed some subtle steps in the above. But, I am clueless. Hope someone can offer a pointer.

PyS60 = Symbion. Not Maemo.

Yeah, it can be a bit confusing that PyS60 is hosted on garage.maemo.org :-/

I am simply trying to invoke PyS60 on my Windows based PC first. My eventual goal is to test the pair of the script in my Pt. 1).
