i get the same error dont bother.... And i dont have a problem. please try the other steps
sudo gainroot
apt-get install kismet

try (as root):
The interface needs to be up before you can scan, you can't scan because the wireless chip cannot communicate with the rest of the devices due to firmware not being loaded. So you need to have the interface up either way.Code:ifconfig wlan0 up
