Hello,

I've bought a used N900 from ebay which works great, except of one thing.

When replacing the sim card or restoring a backupmenu image, the n900 sends 2 silent sms. I've noticed it direct at first boot with the sim-card, because the inserted sim was empty and the phone operator sends 2 sms back. -> "sry, message could not be delivered, no money, blah"

First intention was to search for processes and files of

smscon xttp://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=60729
imhere xttp://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=50246
prey xttp://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=73725
SMS-based stolen phone locator xttp://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=60516

but could not found any sms tracking like program.

Then another 2 sms arrived from my mobile operator with the gprs settings.

Maybe maemo requests gprs/umts settings at first boot with a new sim card?
Anybody heard of something like this and can give me an advice?

This pretty much sounds like imhere. These are the uninstall information
Code:
sudo gainroot
 killall imhere-0.3
 rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.prerm
 rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.postinst
 dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq imhere-0.3

That was my first thought, but there are no processes or files named "imhere".

Code:
Nokia-N900:~# ps -e | grep imhere
 3140 root 2816 S grep imhere
Nokia-N900:~# ls /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhe*
ls: /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhe*: No such file or directory
More precisely it goes like this:

empty sim:
- boot
- 2 sms arrive "send failed, no money"

charged sim:
- boot
- 2 sms arrive with gprs settings, 2 sms debited from credit

I just noticed that it only happens one time after first boot with every new sim-card, or after restore from backupmenu.

Tomorrow i can check the reciever number, but until now this is all i've got.

Any help would be appreciated, maybe some commands i can throw into xterm to get further. Thanks in advance.

Maybe it's just cherry a.k.a. MyNokia registration.

Thanks for the hint! Never heard of my nokia, just saw it in the settings-menu and assumed it's deaktivated. (My last Nokia was a 9300 )

Well, that was a little strange.
The 2 messages from OP about failed sms delivery did only appear because the card was empty. With a charged simcard nothing appears and they don't get debited, was my fault (forgot about 2 sms transmitted that day). And on top of that my operator sends me exactly 2 sms with the gprs settings.

...
Does anybody know more about these two sms?
What is the content and recipient number?
