Now that I'm retired, I'm considering picking up a 770 here in Canada (I can get a new, unused one for $149.00). This will be to replace my aging Sharp Tri-Pad and Ipaq 3870 as ebook readers primarily, but the 802.11 on the 770 is a great added bonus. Couple questions, though....

- Should I worry about getting WSOD? What is the likelhood, and given that these are EOL for Nokia , would repairs under warranty be an issue?
- What kind of battyer life can I expect, and what kind of standy time is typical.


If I weren't retired, I'd probably consider a 800, but reduced and fixed income makes choices a bit more constrained..

I don't think a WSOD is very common. I personally have never had an issue with it on my 770. As far as battery life, I can usually get a good 3 or 4 hours of constant use out of it, which for me usually means listening to internet radio and running pidgin to receive and send im's at a pretty steady rate, and then browsing websites every so often. Leaving the tablet alone, not being connected to wifi, and things like that will cause it to run longer than that, and if you put the hardcover over it which will turn off the wifi and the screen, it can last for a very very long time. Using it as an ebook reader disconnected from the wifi could probably cause it to last longer than mine usually does.

Bump on that - the battery life is also dependent on the screen brightness. I find that the minimal brightness is fine for reading in bed (in fact with the light off, it's almost too bright).

I find it just bright enough to recover stray peanuts before they become really uncomfortable.
