In my case, eyesight was not a problem. All it took was tacking the port on both sides, apply flux liberally on contacts, heat soldering iron to good temp., apply a little solder on the tip, and just slide it over the contacts. With the right temperature and enough flux the whole thing flows nicely.
Anyway, with this technique I fixed both my fallen off USB ports. I'm not talking about a possibility.
The quoted part of my message was just saying no one should attempt to reattach the port without flux/braid. Soldering iron alone seems insufficient to me, due to the pins being so close to each other.
Hot air remains the best option, which unfortunately I had no access to.
