I am trying to give up my personal cell phone and a N800 is part of my plan. I use skype at my home. I have a work cell phone to use when people absolutely have to contact me while I'm out. The only base I don't have covered is text messaging. At a computer I can use Yahoo's sms service. It works well with the people who text me. But it doesn't work on the n800. Does anyone have any ideas? What can I do besides just give it up and tell them to call or email me? I appreciate the suggestions.

Grand Central + Gizmo

There's a guide on the forums somewhere here and you can get an invite to Grand Central from people here as well.

No, and neither does skype. But if you give up your cellphone, you wouldn't be getting any incoming text messages. For outgoing SMS, I believe there are a number of web service providers (free and paid) where you can send text messages to any number in the US. Some are ad-supported.

I know I can send sms from email. But I was hoping someone knew of a service like yahoo's sms from email where they can send it back to me. And that it worked on the n800. I'll have to see if they can just send email from their phones.
