After doing the update from 50-2 to 51-3 i cannot get ssh public key authentication working at all. for clarification this is me attempting to ssh from a workstation into my NIT. this all worked great under 50-2, but i have the boot problem so i opted to upgrade.

i restored /root/.ssh/authorized_keys from a backup i had made. i have checked and rechecked permissions on /root/.ssh and /root/.ssh/authorized_keys. i restored /etc/ssh/sshd_config from a backup.

no matter what i do, i cannot get it to actually authenticate me via public key. password authentication works fine, but is somewhat not convenient.

has anyone else ran into this since doing the update?

i have no idea how, but the problem turned out to be a permissions problem on /root.
