With the tablet price dropping like houseflies, $180 (or $150 with creditcard app), unlock, no phone contract (can't help to pull this ), very soon, some of us will have more than 1 tablets. The fun is, you have more than 1 tablet. The trouble is, this tablet does not do squat, until you make it run like the other one that you have been using, fine tuned, with all the apps installed. This tablet, new in the box, dont even connect to your wifi (you may need a key for secured wifi!), not to mention, has no root, no repositories, no.... you got the picture.

Well, of course, you can manually add this add that, and start with trying to locate all your little apps, and trying to install thru app manager one by one, and found out some app does NOT work via app manager, requiring special attention in installing, rotation, tear.... and even after installation, you still have to set some parameters, accounts, passwords, whatnots....

Well, you have one tablet that you have spent the last 18 month to train, and runs almost as good as an eyefune now , I think the natural solution is to clone from your 1st tablet to the 2nd, less work, proven results, right? And after you make it work, you then have a way to backup your system from now on if anything goes werieeeeeee....

here it is, reverse clone, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=29135. Follow the links for details. Because of the inherent limitation of 256 Mb of the internal Flash on the tablet, you need to limit your installed apps down to bare essential in order for the reverse clone to work.

For the brand new N810 owners,
1) Must check this bug 1st, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=29135, thread #71 and #72

2) [=yes, it is ok to clone from N800 to the N810, it works and your house will NOT get blown away=]
Edit: No. It is problematic. Better to stick with clones N800 to N800 ; or N810 to N810. However the SDboot between N800 and N810 seems to be doing OK.

3) There is a mistaken ID in the N810, mmc1 and mmc2 sometimes get reversed, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...175#post298175, use the patch to fix it, or do the thing bunanson knows the best, just reboot, it will get it right the 2nd time.

4) after you have done it once, you now have a one button backup, see my pic, the floppy disk is like the system tools>system restore in the windoz world, one can now experimenting with ANY apps/setup/alpha/beta installation, with the full confident that the restore is ONLY one button away!

enjoy,

bun

You mean you yourself, nhanquy! This are all YOUR credits. You are the brain, bunanson is the foot soldier. Honestly, there is not much going on right now here with the tablet, no new OS, no new apps, no new surprise or disaster, we have to entertain ourselves, dont we? Part of the reason to get another tablet is plain boredom .
Seriously, I really think Nokia cheat us by NOT implementing a backup button. I even have to 'make' my own reset button during the early days.... Oh well, no matter how much I whine, I still like this little sucker, the best toy I ever got.

My new N810 will be here next week ($150... to good of a deal to say no to). Will use those links you posted to clone my N800 (it has a rolling screen problem) over to the N810.
Thanks

I hope you find it useful and helpful as I am. As I mentioned in the beginning of the thread, manually to prepare the tablet 'was' fun for the 1st time, and then the OS updates, and then the 2nd tablet, and the 3rd tablet...I just want to use it rather than spending time to 'prep' them. That is the whole idea behind it.

So, you got another N810, is that a vote of no confidence for the upcoming Rover?

At the time of speaking, I just noticed I messed up on installing several apps I dont really care, no sweat, I just pressed the now famous one button backup, even before I finished typing this sentence, my SDboot is back to the previous version. Nice. Umm, I am going to call that myEasy button, "thats easy".
