I've noticed this since the first time I googled N900. Whenever I'm about to show N900 to people, I have to tell them it's not that ugly couch looking thing..

First image people see when they look up for N900

(Whole first line got nothing to do with N900)

What do you guys think?

I wish it had that big a screen.

I doubt the conspiracy angle. I would guess that Google moves those to the top of images because they've been there longer, they have more links pointing to them, and they've had more hits. It should change over time.

Hi, my name is Google and I rely on a process called search engine optimization in order to display my results. For items that have been on the internet longer, have had more people talking, linking, and writing about them, I rank them higher. Yes, this usually means that newer topics tend not to come to the top as fast, but it also ensures that any old topic just doesn't throw the system into a tizzy.

About your N900 not yet appearing at the top, its because the N810 gets linked on pages about the N900 more. The solution for my eyes are simple, stop talking about the N810, N800, and 770 Internet Tablets on the same page that you talk/link/video/write about the N900. Don't worry, my trends say that hte N900 will be the only Nokia tablet folks will care about before the end of the flu season.

Signed,
Google

PS: Don't worry about the N900's relevancy in other search engines. Ours will get you the results faster, even if our query on your topic isn't the most accurate.

There's no way N900 didn't get enough hits yet. Even after all this time when google (etc..) was the only place to see the N900

N900 got plenty of hits. It's just that for months (years?) all the hits were to N900 rumor sites with N900 rumor photos. Google Apple Tablet. There are over 2,000,000 images of what it looks like despite its nonexistence.

I smell a rat, because before, searching N900 got the leaked photos and a few of the drawings from Mobile Crunch, not this crap. Google is doing some underhanded ish.

I strongly suspect that the first photo has been the first photo since around the time it was posted on July 11.

That is to say July 11, 2007.

Give the N900 time. A real looking leaked photo is already up to #8 and actual photos start at #9. Of course we will have to leapfrog the 2005 NEC N900 at #7.

The reason the first line is returning inconsistent results which don't match the current N900, is quite simple, and is as a few others have mentioned above.

Back in the day, when everyone was reporting and 'leaking' information about the N900, nobody knew what it looked like. Because of this different images were used on n900 articles. Google prioritizes old content over new content if that old content is considered to be consistent. It will likely take another month or two before this adjusts.

Additionally, naming the device the same as another device (NEC N900), probably wasn't the smartest move either, but it won't matter by 2010. due to the sheer amount of Nokia N900 content on the internet that's still being indexed and quantified.
