Just bought an N810 and need all the RAM I can get my grubby little hands on. I'd like to disable the windowing system and, in effect, make this a headless server. There have been some posts about a console-only mode, but frankly they appear to be very confusing. Is there an easy way to eliminate the start up of the windowing system and just have a text console?

Thanks,

Check out this blog entry -- http://blogs.sun.com/jtc/entry/glassfish_on_a_handheld

It contains some kludgery to shutdown the X-server and a bunch of other applications. Basically, you put the device in R&D mode and kill off a bunch of applications started in /etc/rc2.d.
