Reflashing is generally not required to reinstall software!
do something like
Code:
apt-get install --reinstall foo
to reinstall the application named "foo".

Yeah but because he said "Maemo software" I thought he meant the OS.

First of all I wonder WHY people want to reinstall something. Because in 99% of the cases it does not fix any problems.

I had problems with the N900 (very short battery life and other issues) that I thought that reloading the maemo5 would help and had to find how I could reload it.

Found an easy way using Nokia's PC Suite and using the Update feature. I could not use the Update feature that was on the phone as it was already updated.
Using the PC Suite I was able to reload the OS and restore the phone to the original setting. I was able to fix the battery issue that way.

AlmostTI stops working every week or so and I have to reinstall it to get it to work, it work's 100% of the time after a reinstall.

Is it in extras-devel? If it is, it will be fixed over time! Its to be expected.
