Hi all first post, mainly a lurker but find this site highly helpful.

I am posting this because i thought it may help others. I want to use my N900 as a modem from time to time and thought i needed PC Suite to do it via the built in connectivity button. I downloaded PC suite and installed and tested it out over my 3.5G here in chicago.

It worked fine but was slow, EDGE slow. It also almost seemed like it was being capped or throttled. My pings would never get below 230 and always stay around there. My speeds never got much better than 240 either. Strangely enough this is also similar speeds Matt Miller got when using his PC Suite to tether his N900 http://nokiaexperts.com/nokia-n900-t...s-pc-pc-suite/

Because of the strange pinging and my speeds normally being close to 1mb in a well 3.5G signal area i decided to try and bypass the PC Suite and use the built in dialup function in Vista. Sure enough using that i was seeing speeds between 800kbps and 1mb on numerous tests.

I wonder if this is some kind of limitation in PC Suite with the N900 or some kind of compatibility problem. Hopefully this has helped someone and i would also be curious if you use PC Suite and see normal browsing speeds you would when not connected via PC Suite.

Thanks
Jim

I have the same problem with tethering speed however my in my case it is reduced to around 0,3Mbit with bluetooth, cable/nokia pc suite and cable/built in W7 dial-up. With the n900 i get my normal speed around 3-4 Mbit...

The connection is stable to the computer and internet browsing is fast, its the download speed that is slow.

Does anyone have a solution?

I suspect that this is a PC Suite peculiarity, since the built in drivers on my (ubuntu) netbook give much better results than your PC suite results on a similar 3.5g connection, about those that your Vista drivers give.
