I am and have been an open source software user for sometime. I have been using Ubuntu for two years now, and used some oss stuff even before that. I have decided it is time to give back to the community that I have leeched from for so long. I realize that this can be done in many ways, I have already done beta testing and bug reporting for things like open office. But I want to learn how to program. I want to help the community in that fashion.
So I would like suggestions in the following areas:
1. Languages I should start with
2. Website Howto
4. Book Recommendations
5. General advice

(note: I want to help specifically with this community in mind, so suggestion in that direction would be awesome)

4. Learning Python - An OSS Book : http://books.google.fr/books?id=nEJ-...um=1&ct=result
5. Use PyGTKEditor to code directly on your NIT.
5bis. Take a look at Glade with python tutorial to make ui as Tinker (TK) isn't available on maemo.

You should obey him. I did and in the same afternoon I started with Python I had a small app that tells you if the number you enteted is or is not zero and a working calculator.

Saludos, Binky.

Binky,

indeed you should, Khertan is well respected around here and his software lets us roam with our tablets hacking wherever we go.

Does this mean you are now the "goto-guy" for calculators and numeric analysis?

Best of look with your coding it can be very rewarding.
