assuming that you are comfortable setting up an ssh server on your n900 you could ssh directly from your first pc. for a slightly improved workaround at least.
are you 32 or 64bit lucid? what os is on your other pc? it sounds like lucid may be at fault here as you can mount the n900 elsewhere fine.

I have been unable to mount my N900 from my UBuntu Lucid pc. Not sure if its happened with n900 update to 1.2 or ubuntu update to Lucid?
Basically i plug it in with USB, select Mass Storage but then nothing happens.
Alternatively i used to be able to connect to the N900 via Wifi but when i try to connect to server in Nautilus it get 'Host key verification failed'
So basically i have no way to transfer to/from my N900.
Any help appreciated
