Hi,

I have programming experience in C++, but recently working on Java. I am interested in starting with Hello World application. I have windows vista and also recently installed Virtual box for Ubuntu. I also have Qt creator on my vista. I got N900 recently.

Appreciate any pointers to get started on setting up environment to write simple app.

Thanks,
Sukumar

Thanks for quick reply. I already downloaded and installed QT sdk on Vista. I got qt creater, designer etc.

I am able to follow tutorial to develop simple application. I do not know the steps to run this on n900 (Packaging etc).

I also want to improve knowledge in general on Memo. Looking for road map.

If you have downloaded Nokia Qt SDK you should check NokiaQtSDK/readme/index.html.

I cant believe how little info there is out there to develop apps for the n900 and yet is is so easy when you figure it out.

This is what I did after weeks of struggling so i hope it helps.(it works for me)

1) You have to have the 1.2 firmware installed on the n900
2) Enable the developers and testing extras repository .http://thenokiablog.com/2009/10/27/m...-applications/
3) Install mad developer from the n900 repository.
4) Follow these steps in the zip file.
http://rapidshare.com/files/406871683/readme.zip
5) Download the qt paint example - http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n...t_Example.html
6) Run that (the play button) and it should open up on the n900

I am still trying to figure out how to save a simple hello world file and import it into the n900 with its own button for the desktop so i can use my simple app shortcuts and scripts without having to be connected to the PC. If anyone has any idea how to do that i would apreciate the help also.

Thanks for the instructions. unfortunately, the readme zip is of size 0.

I am having problem to test Maemo emulator. Here are the steps I have followed.

1. Installed QT sdk 1.0 on windows machine. It is including Maemo environment, Qt creator etc.
2. Installed mad developer on n900. Configured usb to point to 192.168.2.15/255.255.255.0. Clicked manage usb to use g_ether
3. I connected N900 through USB and choose as "pc suite mode"
4. Opened Network connections. I see "Loca area connection 2" as unidentified network with device name as "Linux USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget". I set its ip address as 192.168.2.14.
It is showing connectivity as "limited connectivity". Is it a problem?
5. In Qt creatro, I went to Tools->projects and set following
Device type : maemo emulator
password: generated password from n900

When I click on "Test", It shows "Testing configuration". After 30 seconds, it gives following message
Could not connect to host.
Did you start Qemu?

What is Qemu?It is really confusing on what I am doing. Is there any document that explains what are these ip addresses and how are these connected.

Appreciate for any pointer to fix the problem.

qemu is a hardware emulator.
The IP addresses are in order for you to be able to access the N900 via USB. You can choose whatever IP addresses you want, as long as they are two different ones and both on the same network.
