I was able to hide birthdays from the calendar by using edit calendar setting in the calendar app.

However, I would like to hide birthdays from the calendar widget on the desktop.

Is there a way this can be done?

through the settings?
enter in desktop edit mode, and then tap on the wrench.

Thanks, I was using another calendar widget not the one provided with maemo
